\subsection{\Matthew 17}
\subsubsection{The Transfiguration}
\VS{1} And after six days \Iesous took \Petros and \Jacob\fnJacob{} and \John his brother and 
brought them up to [a] high mountain by themselves. 
\VS{2} And he was 
transformed before them, and his face shown as the sun, his garment became 
white as light. 
\VS{3} And behold \Moses and \Elias were seen by them 
conversing with him. 
\VS{4} But \Petros answering said to \Iesous: Lord, it is 
good\footnote{or ``beautiful''} [that] we are here. If you wish, we will build three 
shelters, one for you and one for \Moses and one for \Elias. 
\VS{5} While he 
was yet speaking behold [a] radiant cloud overshadowed them, and behold [a] voice 
out of the cloud said: This is my agape-beloved son with whom I am 
well-pleased. Be hearing him. 
\VS{6} And when the disciples heard they fell 
on their faces and feared greatly. 
\VS{7} And \Iesous came and grasping them 
said: Rise and be not fearing. 
\VS{8} And when they lifted up their eyes 
they saw nothing except \Iesous himself only. 

\VS{9} And while coming down the 
mountain \Iesous commanded them saying: Tell the vision to no one until the 
son of man rises out of [the] dead. 
\VS{10} And the disciples asked him saying: 
Why therefore do the scribes say the \Elias must come first? 
\VS{11} And 
answering he said: \Elias indeed comes and restores\footnote{or ``reestablishes''} everything. 
\VS{12} But I say to you that \Elias already 
came and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they wished. Thus 
also is the son of man about to be suffering by them. 
\VS{13} Then the 
disciples understood that he spoke to them concerning \John the Baptist. 

\subsubsection{The Disciples's Failure to Heal}
\VS{14} And when they came to the crowd [a] man came to him kneeling before him 
\VS{15} and saying: Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is 
insane\footnote{literally ``moon-struck'' --- ``epilepsy'' (?)} and suffers 
evil-ly. For often he falls into the fire and often into the water. 
\VS{16} And I brought him to your disciples and they were unable to heal him. 
\VS{17} \Iesous answering said: O unbelieving and perverted nation, How long 
will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Be bringing him here to me. 
\VS{18} And \Iesous rebuked him and the demon came out from him and the child 
was healed from that hour. 
\VS{19} Then when the disciples came to \Iesous 
privately they said: Why were we unable to cast it out? 
\VS{20} So he says 
to them: Because of your unbelief\footnote{``unbelief'' DW\koine{} \vulgate{}; 
``little-belief'' \sinaiticus{}B}. Truly I say to you, if you have belief like [a] 
grain of mustard, you will say to this mountain: Go from here to there, and 
it will go, and nothing will be impossible to you. 
\VS{21} \footnote{vs 21: 
DW\koine{} \vulgate{}; omit the verse: B\sinaiticus{} few}But this type does not go out except 
in prayer and fasting.

\subsubsection{Second Prediction of \Iesous's Death and Resurrection}
\VS{22} When they came together in \Galilee \Iesous said to them: The son of 
man is about to be delivered into the hands of men. 
\VS{23} And they will 
kill him, and on the third day he will arise. And they were greatly 
disturbed.

\subsubsection{The Temple Tax}
\VS{24} When they came into \Kapernaoum the [ones] collecting double-drachmas came 
to \Petros and said: Doesn't your teacher pay [the] double-drachma? 
\VS{25} He 
says: Yes. And when they came to the house \Iesous came before him saying: How 
does it seem to you \Simon? From which do the kings of the earth collect taxes 
or tolls? From his sons or from the strangers\footnote{or ``foreigners"}? 
\VS{26} So when he said: From the strangers\footnote{or ``foreigners"}, 
\Iesous said to him: Therefore the sons are exempt. But in order that we not 
cause them to stumble, having gone to the sea throw [a] fishhook and take the 
first fish you bring up, and opening its mouth you will find [a] stater. Taking 
this give [it] to them for me and you.
