\subsection{Luke 24} \subsubsection{The Resurrection} \VS{1} Now on the first [day] of the Sabbaths\fnSabbaths{} at early dawn they came upon the tomb bearing what spices they had prepared. \VS{2} But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, \VS{3} and having entered they did not find the body of \Iesous. \VS{4} And it came to pass when they were at a loss concerning this that behold two men stood before them in gleaming clothing. \VS{5} But when they became fearful and were bowing their faces to the ground\fnGe{} they said to them: Why do you seek the \zoe{}-living\fnZoe{} with the dead? \VS{6} He is not here, but arisen. Remember as he spoke to you [when you were] still being in \Galileias, \VS{7} saying concerning the Son of Humanity\fnAnthropos{} that he must be delivered up into [the] hands of sinful people\fnAnthropos{} and be crucified and on the third day arise. \VS{8} And they remembered his words\fnRema{}, \VS{9} and having returned from the tomb reported all these [things] to the eleven and to all the rest. \VS{10} Now they were the \Magdalene \Maria, and \Ioanna, and \Maria the [mother] of \Iakob\fnIakob{}, and the rest with them were telling these [things] to the apostles. \VS{11} And these words appeared before them as nonsense, and they did not trust them\footnote{Feminine pronoun.}. \VS{12} But \Petros having arisen, ran to the tomb, and having peeked in sees the grave clothes lying alone, and he departed to his own [house] marveling at what had come to pass. \subsubsection{\Iesous Walks the Road to \Emmaeus} \VS{13} And behold two among them in this day were proceeding to [a] town being distant sixty stadions\footnote{One stadion = 600 ft., so this would be about 6.8 miles?} from \Ierous, by name \Emmaeus{}, \VS{14} and they were conversing with each other concerning all these [things] that had happened. \VS{15} And it came to pass while they were conversing and discussing, \Iesous also himself having drawn nigh was going with them. \VS{16} But their eyes were being prevented from knowing him. \VS{17} But he said to them: What [are] these words\fnLogos{} that you toss-back-and-forth with one another while walking? And they stopped, gloomy. \VS{18} But one by name Kleop\'{a}s answering said to him: You alone lodge in \Ierous\footnote{That is, "Are you the only one lodging in \Ierous who has not known\ldots} and have not known what has come to pass there in these days? \VS{19} And he said to them: What [sort of things]? So they said to him the [things] concerning \Iesous of \Nazarious, [a] man\fnAner{} who became [a] powerful prophet in deed and word\fnLogos{} before God and all the people, \VS{20} how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to [the] judgment of death and crucified him. \VS{21} But we were hoping that he is the one [about] to ransom Israel. But with all these [things] it now brings the third day from which these [things] came to pass. \VS{22} But even certain women among us astounded us, having been early at the tomb, \VS{23} and not finding his body they came saying also to have seen [a] vision of angels, who say he \zoe{}-lives\fnZoe{}. \VS{24} And some of those with us departed to the tomb, and found [it] likewise just as the women also said, but they saw him not. \VS{25} And he said to them: O unintelligent and slow in heart to be trusting in all that the prophets spoke. \VS{26} Wasn't it necessary for the Anointed\fnChristos{} [One] to suffer these [things] and enter into his glory? \VS{27} And beginning with \Moses and from all the prophets he explicated to them in all the Scriptures the [things] concerning himself. \VS{28} And they drew nigh to the town to which they were going, and he pretended to be going farther. \VS{29} And they prevailed upon him saying: Remain with us, for it is towards evening and the day is already spent. And he entered to remain with them. \VS{30} And it came to pass when he reclined with them having taken the bread he gave thanks and having broken [it] was giving [it] to them. \VS{31} And their eyes were opened, and they knew him, and he vanished from them. \VS{32} And they said to one another: Were not our hearts ablaze in us as he was speaking to us in the road, as he opened to us the Scriptures? \VS{33} And having arisen in that hour they returned to \Ierous, and they found the eleven and those with them collected, \VS{34} saying that certainly the Lord was arisen and was seen by \Simon. \VS{35} And they described the [things] in the road and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread. \subsubsection{\Iesous Makes a Final Appearance} \VS{36} And while they were speaking these [things] he stood in their midst. \VS{37} Now being terrified and having become afraid they were supposing [they were] beholding [a] spirit. \VS{38} And he said to them: Why are you troubled, why do doubts arise in your heart? \VS{39} See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me and see, for [a] spirit does not have flesh and blood as you behold me having. \VS{40} And having said this he showed them his hands and feet. \VS{41} But when they were still distrusting from joy and amazement he said to them: Do you have anything to eat here? \VS{42} So they gave him part of [a] roasted fish. \VS{43} And having taken [it] he ate [it] before them. \subsubsection{\Iesous's Final Commission} \VS{44} So he said to them: These [are] my words\fnLogos{} that I spoke to you while yet being with you, because it is necessary all the [things] written in the law of \Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning me be fulfilled. \VS{45} Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. \VS{46} And he said to them that: It is likewise written that the Anointed\fnChristos{} [One] suffer and arise from [the] dead on the third day, \VS{47} and [that] repentance for forgiveness of sins be preached upon his name to all the nations --- beginning from \Ierous. \VS{48} You [are] witnesses of these [things]. \VS{49} And behold I send out the good news of the father upon you. But you remain in the city until you are clothed with power from on high. \VS{50} So he led them out to \Bethania, and having lifted up his hands he blessed them. \VS{51} And it came to pass when he was blessing them he withdrew from them. \VS{52} And they returned to \Ierous with great joy, \VS{53} and through everything they were in the temple blessing God.
