\subsection{Matthew 8} \subsubsection{Cleansing a Leper} \VS{1} Now when he came down from the mountain, [a] great crowd followed him. \VS{2} And behold [a] leper, having come, prostrated himself before him saying: Lord, if you wish [it], you are able to cleanse me. \VS{3} And stretching out his hand he grasped him saying: I wish [it], be cleansed. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. \VS{4} And \Iesous says to him: See that you speak to no one, but be going [and] show yourself to the priest, and bring the gift\footnote{or ``offering''} prescribed by \Moses, for a witness to them. \subsubsection{Healing the Centurion's Servant} \VS{5} Now when he came into \Kapernaoum [there] came to him [a] centurion calling to him \VS{6} and saying: Lord, my child is stricken paralytic in my house, terribly put to the test. \VS{7} And he says to him: I, having come, will heal him. \VS{8} But the centurion answering him said: Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof, but only say [the] word, and my child will be cured. \VS{9} For I also am [a] man under authority\footnote{``under authority'' W\koine{}; ``appointed by authority'' \sinaiticus{}B}, having soldiers under me, and I say to this [one]: Be going, and he goes, and to another: Be coming, and he comes, and to my slave: Do this, and he does [it]. \VS{10} Now having heard [this] \Iesous was amazed and said to his followers: Truly I say to you, in Israel I have not found such faith\footnote{text: \sinaiticus{}\hesychian{} most \vulgate{}; ``with none have I found such belief in Israel'' WB few}. \VS{11} And I say to you that many from east and west will have come and will recline with \Abraam and \Isaak and \Iakob\fnIakob{} in the kingdom of the heavens. \VS{12} But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness, [where] there will be weeping and gnashing\footnote{or ``snarling,'' ``biting,'' ``grinding''} of teeth. \VS{13} And \Iesous said to the centurion: Be going, as you have believed it is come to pass for you. And the child was healed in that hour\footnote{``hour'' \sinaiticus{}B\vulgate{}\koine{}\hesychian{}; ``day'' W few}. \subsubsection{Healings at \Petros's House} \VS{14} And \Iesous having come to the house of \Petros, he saw his mother-in-law stricken and feverish. \VS{15} And he grasped her hand, and the fever left her, and she arose and served him. \VS{16} Now [that] evening, it came to pass they brought to him demon-possessed, and he threw out the spirits with [a] word, and all those having [it] evil-ly he healed, \VS{17} in order that what was said through Isaiah the prophet be fulfilled saying\footnote{Isa.53:4}: \begin{verse} He took our weakness and bore our sicknesses. \end{verse} \subsubsection{Challenging Professed Followers} \VS{18} So \Iesous having seen [the] crowd around him, he called [for them] to withdraw to the other side. \VS{19} And, coming to him, [one] of the scribes said to him: Teacher, I will follow you wherever you be going. \VS{20} And \Iesous says to him: The foxes have lairs and the birds of heaven [have] nests, but the son of man has nowhere he may lay his head. \VS{21} Then another of the disciples said to him: Permit me first to go and bury my father. \VS{22} But \Iesous says to him: Be following me, and let the dead bury their own dead. \subsubsection{Stilling of a Storm} \VS{23} And when he entered into the boat, his disciples followed him. \VS{24} And behold [a] great shaking began in the sea, so that the boat is covered by the waves. And he was sleeping. \VS{25} And having come they roused him saying: Lord, save us, we are perishing. \VS{26} And he says to them: What sort of cowards are you, [you] little-faiths? And having roused himself he rebuked the winds and the sea, and there came about [a] great calm. \VS{27} And the men marveled, saying: Whence is this [man], that both the winds and the sea obey him? \subsubsection{Healing the Gadarene Demoniacs} \VS{28} And when he came to the other side to the land of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed met him coming out from among the grave-markers, [being] very hostile, so that no one was mighty [enough] to come through that road. \VS{29} And behold they cried out saying: What [is common] to us and to you, O Son of God? Have you thus come before the time\fnKairos{} to torture us? \VS{30} Now there was afar off from them [a] herd of many pigs grazing. \VS{31} So the demons were crying out to him saying: If you cast us out, send us into the herd of pigs. \VS{32} And he said to them: Be going. So having gone out they withdrew into the pigs. And behold all the herd rushed headlong down the bank into the waters. \VS{33} Now those grazing [the pigs] fled, and having withdrawn into the city [they] reported everything also [pertaining to] the demon possessed. \VS{34} And behold all the city came out to meet \Iesous, and having seen him they called out to him that he move on from their region.
