\subsection{Acts 1} \VS{1} I indeed did the first account concerning everything, O Theophilos\footnote{means ``lover of God''}, which Jesus began to be doing and teaching, \VS{2} until which day, having commanded the apostles through the Holy Spirit whom he chose, he was taken up, \VS{3} to whom he also presented himself zoe-living\fnZoe{} with many proofs after the [things] he suffered, appearing to them for forty days and saying [things] concerning the kingdom of God; \VS{4} and assembling\footnote{or ``eating''} with [them] he commanded them to not be departing from Jerusalem, but to await the father's promise which you heard from me; \VS{5} because John on the one hand baptized with\footnote{or ``in''} water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit after these not many days. \VS{6} Indeed therefore, having gathered, they were asking\fnErotao{} him saying: Lord, do you restore in this time the kingdom to Israel? \VS{7} He said to them, It is not yours to know [the] time or [the] season\fnKairos{} which the father has established by his own authority, \VS{8} but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to\footnote{or ``until''} the end of the earth\fnGe{}. \VS{9} And having said these [things], while they were watching he was taken up, and [a] cloud received him from their eyes. \VS{10} And as they were looking intently into heaven while he was going, behold also two men stood by them in white clothing, \VS{11} and they said: Galileean men, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, the [one] having been taken up from you into heaven, will thus come [to] what place you have beheld him going to heaven. \VS{12} Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mountain being called [Mount] of Olives, which is near Jerusalem having [a] Sabbath's travel. \VS{15} And when they went in, they went up into the upper room where they were staying, who [were] Peter and John and James and Andrew, Phillip and Thomas, Bartholemew and Matthew, James [son] of Alphaius and Simon the Zealot and Judas [son]\footnote{or ``[brother]''} of James. \VS{14} These all were persisting with one purpose in prayer with [the] women and Mariam the mother of Jesus and with his brothers. \VS{15} And in these days Peter having stood in [the] midst of the brothers, [the] crowd from report was altogether [about] [a] hundred twenty, said: \VS{16} Men, brothers, it was necessary the scripture be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit foretold through the mouth of David concerning Judas when he became leader of those arresting Jesus, \VS{17} that he was counted among them and received the portion of this service. \VS{18} This [one] indeed therefore acquired [a] field from [the] reward\footnote{or ``treasure''} of injustice, and having become headlong, he burst apart midway, and all his guts were poured out. \VS{19} And it became known to all those dwelling in Jerusalem, so that this field was called in their own dialect Akeldamach, which is Field of Blood. \VS{20} For it is written in [the] scroll of Psalms\footnote{Ps.69:25}, \begin{verse} Let\fnImperative{} his habitation become [a] wilderness \\ And let\fnImperative{} there not be [any] dwelling in it. \end{verse} And\footnote{Ps.109:8}, \begin{verse} Let\fnImperative{} another receive his overseership. \end{verse} \VS{21} It is therefore necessary from [among] those men having gathered to us in every time with whom the Lord Jesus went in and went out upon us, \VS{22} beginning from the baptism of John until the day which he was received up from us, witnesses of his resurrection with us, [for there] to come one from these. \VS{23} And two stood, Joseph the [one] being called Barsabbas, who was named Justus, and Matthias. \VS{24} And having prayed they said: You Lord, heart-knower of everyone, reveal which one of these two I should choose \VS{25} to take the place of this service and apostleship, from which Judas turned aside to his own place. \VS{26} And he gave them lots, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was added with the eleven apostles.
