Occasion: Giving thanks for enough

This table is plain, Lord ---
bread cut,
bowls set out,
a light on in the kitchen,
food enough for this day.

Teach me to call enough by its right name.

Keep me from counting what is missing
until I pass over what is here,
from treating daily bread like a small thing.

Gratitude turns restless so easily,
enough begins to feel like less
the moment I compare it
with what others have
or with what I hoped would be mine.

Make me quick to thank You
for the cupboard that is not empty,
for the glass that is full,
for the meal prepared.

I do not need to pretend
that every need has vanished.
Only help me receive what is here
without taking its goodness for granted.

At this table,
let want grow quiet.
At this table,
let me thank You first.
