> Telling the Generation to Come
>> We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wondrous works that he has done.
Occasion: Teaching a child about God
Lord, here is a small hand in mine,
and a sky above us both.
Help me speak simply and true.
Keep me from using big words that hide You.
The questions may be larger than my answers,
and I do not want my uncertainty
to make me hurry past the wonder.
Show me how to point,
and pause,
and let the child see for themselves.
Teach me to listen, too ---
to notice what catches their attention,
and to see once again what I have stopped seeing.
I can only stand here,
look up,
and tell the truth about whose world this is.
Give me the right small words.
The moon.
The clouds.
The stars.
Flowers.
Snails.
And Your loving hand behind them.
Keep me gentle.
Keep me honest.
Keep us both looking up.
Amen.
