%% 4
> Lord, show me my end
>> LORD, show me my end, how many days I have left, and how fleeting my life is.
Occasion: Making the most of today
This day will not come again, Lord ---
these hours,
this strength,
this open stretch before night closes.
I feel both the gift of it
and the weight.
I do not want to waste what You have given,
but I do not want to clutch at every hour
as though everything depends on me.
Show me where to spend my time.
Keep me from pouring it out on foolishness.
A day can be consumed ---
one scroll at a time,
one delay,
one dull drift after another,
until evening comes and I can't say what I did.
I lose attention so easily,
and avoid what matters
because it asks more of me than I want to give.
Keep me awake to what this day contains ---
work that serves,
words that mend,
rest that restores,
prayer that keeps me near You.
And when the day doesn't go as planned,
keep me present to the time still before me.
Give me grace for that hour,
and then the next.
This day will not come again.
Let me come to tonight having used it well,
not perfectly,
but faithfully,
for You.
Amen.
