> The Strength of My Heart
>> My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Occasion: Bad news from the doctor
The doctor's words are still with me, Lord.
I heard what was said,
but I still can't take it in.
My body feels suddenly uncertain,
and the life I knew this morning
already feels far away.
Help me hold what I have heard
without letting fear add so much more.
My mind runs ahead to pain,
weakness,
loss,
and long nights I have not yet lived.
I keep reaching for answers
that no one can give.
I am afraid of what comes next,
and tired already from imagining it.
Don't let tomorrow crush this moment,
this breath,
this hour.
Be the strength of my heart
while I make the next call,
ask the next question,
and do what today requires.
Give me enough steadiness for what is mine to do today,
even while so much remains unknown.
I don't know what comes next, Lord.
I only know I can't face it without You.
Be the strength of my heart
for all that comes.
Amen. |
