> Be still, and know that I am God
>> Be still, and know that I am God.

Occasion: Letting go of control
My hands are tight again, Lord ---
on the calendar,
on the budget,
on how I expect everything to go.
I keep rehearsing what might happen
and arranging answers for questions
no one has asked yet.
I am afraid that if I loosen my hold,
something important will slip through my fingers.
Open my grip
before I mistake my grip for safety.
Control promises rest,
but it's a false promise that keeps me awake.
It turns every delay into a threat
and every person into someone to manage.
Even when nothing is happening,
I am bracing for what might.
Teach me the freedom of open hands.
Teach me the work that is mine,
and the resting which is also mine.
Give me enough trust for this day,
even if I cannot quite surrender tomorrow.
My hands are tight again, Lord.
Make them open in You.
Amen.
