Occasion: Facing an important morning
Lord, this morning has weight ---
my ironed clothes laid out,
my clock checked twice,
words already circling in my head.
My body knows the importance of this
before anything has even begun.
Before I begin,
hear my voice.
Give me a clear mind
and a steady voice.
Help me tell the difference
between what must be said
and what fear keeps rehearsing.
I can lose myself so quickly
in trying to seem capable.
But beneath my careful preparation are the real questions:
Will I be enough?
Will I remember what I must?
What will happen if this doesn't go as I hope?
Go before me.
Let me see Your guidance
in whatever this morning brings.
And if I stumble,
keep me from believing that one uncertain moment
has undone everything.
Give me grace for what is actually before me,
not every outcome my mind can invent.
This morning has weight.
O Lord, carry what I cannot.
Amen.
