\VS{1} And I having come to you, brothers, came not according to excellence of word
|
|
or wisdom declaring to you the mystery of\footnote{``mystery of''
|
|
\papyrus{46}\sinaiticus{}; ``testimony [about]''BD \koine } God.
|
|
\VS{2} For I did not judge to know
|
|
anything among you except Jesus Christ, and this [one] crucified.
|
|
\VS{3} And I in
|
|
weakness and in fear and in much trembling came to be with you,
|
|
\VS{4} and
|
|
my words and my proclamation [were] not in persuasive wise words, but in
|
|
proof\footnote{or ``demonstration''} of spirit and power,
|
|
\VS{5} in order
|
|
that your belief not be in [the] wisdom of men but in [the] power of God.
|
|
\VS{6} For
|
|
we speak wisdom among the complete\footnote{or ``mature'', ``perfect''}, but
|
|
[a] wisdom not of this eternity, nor of the rulers of this eternity [who are] being
|
|
nullified.
|
|
\VS{7} But we speak the wisdom of God in [the] mystery, the hidden
|
|
[thing] that God predestined before this eternity for our glory,
|
|
\VS{8} which none of the rulers of this eternity have known, for if they had known,
|
|
they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
|
|
\VS{9} But just as it is written:
|
|
|
|
\begin{verse}
|
|
Eye has not seen and ear has not heard \\
|
|
And it has not arisen upon [the] heart of man \\
|
|
As much as the Lord has prepared for those agape-loving him.
|
|
\end{verse}
|
|
|
|
\VS{10} But God has revealed [it] to us through his spirit, for the spirit
|
|
examines everything, even the deep [things] of God.
|
|
\VS{11} For who of men has known
|
|
the [things] of man except the spirit of man [that is] in him? Thus also has no one known the [things] of God except the spirit of God.
|
|
\VS{12} So we have not received the spirit
|
|
of the world but the spirit from God, in order that we know the [things] graced to
|
|
us by God.
|
|
\VS{13} And what we teach is not in the words which man's wisdom
|
|
taught, but in which [the] spirit taught, [we] comparing spiritual [things] with spiritual.
|
|
\VS{14} But the psyche-life-ish\fnPsyche{} man does not accept the [things] of the spirit of God, for
|
|
it is foolishness to him, and he is not able to know that they are
|
|
spiritually appraised\footnote{or ``examined'', ``discerned''}.
|
|
\VS{15} But the spiritual [man] appraises\footnote{or ``examines'', ``discerns''} everything,
|
|
but he himself is appraised\footnote{or ``examined'', ``discerned''} by no
|
|
one.
|
|
\VS{16} For who has known [the] mind of [the] Lord, or who has counseled him? But we have [the] mind of Christ.
