> Joy Comes In the Morning
>> For his anger is but for a moment. His favour is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
Occasion: Coming out of a hard season
The air feels different now, Lord.
I can sit down to a meal
without bracing for what might come next.
A door has opened.
I am grateful,
but I hardly know how to trust this relief.
I endured so long that even gladness
can feel unfamiliar.
Keep me from living as if the storm still owns my house.
Teach my body to believe what this new light says.
Let my breathing slow.
Let me receive a quiet day
without searching it for danger.
Part of me still waits for the floor to give way.
Part of me does not know what to do
when the day is not all panic.
Fear can linger long after there's nothing left to fear.
Bring me into ordinary life again ---
meals at a table,
work that can be done,
sleep that comes easily,
thanks that is not forced.
Help me accept these simple mercies
without demanding that they promise me
nothing hard will ever happen again.
Give me grace to live in the good that is here now.
You brought me out of that season.
Bring that season out of me.
Amen. |
