> When I Am Overwhelmed
>> Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee. Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.
Occasion: A loss of something important
Lord, I lost something important to me.
It's just not something other people recognize as important.
It isn't a death.
It isn't a diagnosis.
There's no Hallmark card for this.
But something that mattered is gone,
and I feel its absence
the same way I'd feel any other grief ---
in the chest,
in the morning,
in the sentences I start
and don't know how to finish.
People don't even ask if I'm okay
because they don't understand how this thing
could break my heart.
Don't hide Your face from me
in this trouble that doesn't fit the usual categories.
You don't need a name for my grief
before You'll hear it.
I know that what I lost counts as real to You,
even on days no one else would understand.
Incline Your ear.
I am calling.
Amen. |
