> Commit Your Way to the Lord
>> Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this:
Occasion: Starting a new job
Lord, that first morning has come,
and I will walk through a door
where no one knows my name yet ---
with my freshly ironed shirt,
my bag by my new desk,
a screen that will light up
with work I've never seen before.
I want to do well.
I want to belong.
And beneath all my preparation
is the fear that I will miss something obvious,
say the wrong thing,
or discover I am not as ready as I hoped.
Keep me from spoiling my first impressions.
Teach me to be steady,
ready to learn,
ready to listen.
The pull is strong to prove myself at once,
to talk too much,
to pretend to know what I don't.
Help me bear the awkwardness of being new
without turning it into shame.
Give me courage to ask what I need to ask,
and patience with what I cannot master today.
Bring me one kind face,
one friendly voice,
one place to stand and begin.
I commit this new way to You:
the work, the uncertainty,
the hope I am almost afraid to name.
As I walk through that door, Lord,
walk with me.
Amen.
