\subsection{Ephesians 5}
|
|
\VS{1} Become therefore imitators of God, as agape-beloved children,
|
|
\VS{2} and be
|
|
walking in agape-love, just as even Christ agape-loved you and delivered
|
|
himself up in our behalf [an] offering and sacrifice to God for an odor of
|
|
fragrance.
|
|
\VS{3} But fornication and every uncleanness or greed, neither
|
|
let\fnImperative{} it be being named among you, just as it is proper
|
|
for holy ones,
|
|
\VS{4} not shamefulness nor foolish-talk or
|
|
coarse-jesting\footnote{or ``buffonnery''}, which are not proper, but rather
|
|
thanksgiving.
|
|
\VS{5} For, knowing [this], know this [again]: That every fornicator, or
|
|
unclean, or greedy, which is idolatry, does not have inheritance in the
|
|
kingdom of Christ and God.
|
|
\VS{6} Let\fnImperative{} no one be
|
|
deceiving you with empty words; for because of such comes the anger of God
|
|
upon every son of disobedience.
|
|
\VS{7} Therefore do not become partners with
|
|
them.
|
|
\VS{8} For you were formerly darkness, but now [are] light in [the] Lord. Be
|
|
walking as children of light ---
|
|
\VS{9} for the fruit of light [is] in every
|
|
goodness and justness and truth ---
|
|
\VS{10} examining what is acceptable to
|
|
the Lord,
|
|
\VS{11} and be not participating with the unfruitful works of
|
|
darkness, but rather be reproving [them].
|
|
\VS{12} For the secret [things] come to pass
|
|
among them are shameful even to be saying.
|
|
\VS{13} But everything being
|
|
reproved is manifested by the light,
|
|
\VS{14} for every manifesting [thing] is
|
|
light. Therefore it says:
|
|
|
|
\begin{verse}
|
|
Be rising, O sleeping \ADD{one \\
|
|
}And arise from the dead \\
|
|
And Christ will shine on you.
|
|
\end{verse}
|
|
|
|
\VS{15} Be seeing therefore that you be walking carefully\footnote{or
|
|
``accurately''}, not as unwise, but as wise,
|
|
\VS{16} buying from the opportune-time\fnKairos(), for the days are wicked.
|
|
\VS{17} Because of this do not become
|
|
foolish, but understand what [is] the will of the Lord.
|
|
\VS{18} And be not being
|
|
drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be being filled with [the] spirit,
|
|
\VS{19} speaking to each other with psalms and hymns and spiritual sons,
|
|
singing and psalming in your heart to the Lord,
|
|
\VS{20} always giving thanks
|
|
concerning everything in [the] name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God and the
|
|
father,
|
|
\VS{21} submitting yourselves to one another in [the] fear of Christ.
|
|
\VS{22} Let\fnImperative{} the wives be submitting to their own
|
|
husbands as to the Lord,
|
|
\VS{23} for [the] man is [the] head of the woman as Christ
|
|
also is [the] head of the assembly\fnEkklhsia{}, himself savior of the body.
|
|
\VS{24} But as the assembly\fnEkklhsia{} submits to Christ, thus also the women
|
|
[should submit] to their husbands in everything.
|
|
\VS{25} Husbands, be agape-loving your wives just as Christ
|
|
agape-loved the assembly\fnEkklhsia{} and delivered himself up in her behalf,
|
|
\VS{26} in order that she be made holy, having been cleansed by the washing of water in
|
|
[the] word,
|
|
\VS{27} in order that he himself present the assembly\fnEkklhsia{} to himself
|
|
glorious, not having spot or wrinkle or any such [thing], but in order that she be
|
|
holy and blameless.
|
|
\VS{28} Thus ought the husbands to be agape-loving their
|
|
own wives as their own bodies. The [one] agape-loving his wife agape-loves
|
|
himself.
|
|
\VS{29} For no one ever hated his own body, but nourishes and
|
|
cherishes\footnote{or ``comforts''} it, just as Christ [does] the assembly\fnEkklhsia{},
|
|
\VS{30} for we are members of his body.
|
|
\VS{31} For this reason [a] man leaves behind
|
|
his father and mother, and adheres to his wife, and the two will be into one
|
|
flesh.
|
|
\VS{32} This is [a] great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the
|
|
assembly\fnEkklhsia{}.
|
|
\VS{33} Nevertheless, let\fnImperative{} each one [of you] in
|
|
particular be agape-loving his wife as himself, and the wife [see] that she fear
|
|
her husband.
