\subsubsection{Turning Water into Wine}
|
|
\lettrine[lraise=0]{A}{nd} on the third day [a] wedding came to pass in Cana of \Galilee,

and the mother of \Iesous was there.
|
|
\VS{2} And both \Iesous and his disciples were invited to the wedding.
|
|
\VS{3} And having lack of wine, the mother of \Iesous says to him:
|
|
They do not have wine.
|
|
\VS{4} And \Iesous says to her: What [concern is that] to me and to you, ma'am?%
|
|

|
|
My hour has not yet come.
|
|
\VS{5} His mother says to the servants: Whatever he says to you, do.
|
|
|
|
\VS{6} Now six stone water jars were standing there according to the purification rites of the Jews,
|
|
each holding two or three measures%
|
|
\footnote{`measure' = 9 or 10 gallons. So this is about 20 to 30 gallons, 75 to 115 liters.}.
|
|
\VS{7} \Iesous says to them:
|
|
Fill the water jars with water.
|
|
And they filled them until full.
|
|
\VS{8} And he says to them: Now draw [some] and be bringing [it] to the headwaiter.
|
|
So they brought [some].
|
|
\VS{9} Now as the headwaiter tasted the water that has become wine,
|
|
and did not know whence it is, but the servants knew ---
|
|
those who have drawn the water, the headwaiter calls the bridegroom
|
|
\VS{10} and says to him:
|
|
Everyone\fnAnthropos{} first puts [out] the good wine,
|
|
and when they are drunk, [puts out] the inferior.
|
|
You have kept the good wine until now.
|
|
\VS{11} This beginning of the signs \Iesous
|
|
did in Cana of \Galilee and revealed his glory,
|
|
and his disciples trusted\fnPistisJohn{} in him.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Cleansing the Temple}
|
|
\VS{12} After these [things] he went down into \Kapernaoum,
|
|
he and his mother and [his] brothers and his disciples,
|
|
and there they stayed not many days.
|
|
\VS{13} Now the Passover of the Jews was near,
|
|
and \Iesous went up into Jerusalem.
|
|
|
|
\VS{14} And he found in the temple [those] selling oxen and sheep and doves,
|
|
and money changers sitting.
|
|
\VS{15} And having made [a] whip out of small ropes, he threw all out of the temple,
|
|
both the sheep and the oxen,
|
|
and he poured out the money of the money changers and overturned the tables
|
|
\VS{16} and to those selling the doves he said:
|
|
Take these from here.
|
|
Be not making the house of my father [a] house of merchandise.%
|
|

\VS{17} His disciples remembered that it is written\footnote{Ps.69:9},
|

The zeal [of your] house will consume me.

\VS{18} So the Jews answered and said to him:
|
|
What sign do you show us, because you do these [things]?
|
|
\VS{19} \Iesous answered and said to them:
|
|
Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise\fnEgeiro{} it.
|
|
\VS{20} So the Jews said:
|
|
This temple was built in forty-six years,
|
|
and you will raise it in three days?
|
|
\VS{21} But he said this concerning the temple of his body.
|
|
\VS{22} So when he was raised from [the] dead,
|
|
his disciples remembered that he was saying this,
|
|
and they trusted\fnPistisJohn{} the scriptures and the word that \Iesous said.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{\Iesous at the Passover Feast}
|
|
\VS{23} But when he was in Jerusalem in the Passover,
|
|
in the festival, many trusted in his name,
|
|
seeing his signs that he was doing.
|
|
\VS{24} But \Iesous himself was not trusting\fnPistisJohn{} himself with them
|
|
because he was knowing everything,
|
|
\VS{25} and because he was not having need that anyone witness concerning human-beings,\fnAnthropos{}
|
|
for he himself was knowing what was in human-beings.
|
