\subsubsection{The Ministry of \John the Baptist}
\VS{1} [This is the] beginning of the good-news of \Iesous [the] Anointed\fnChristos{} [One], Son of God%
\footnote{``Son of God'': BDW \vulgate{} \koine{}; omit: \sinaiticus{} few},
\VS{2} just as it is written in the prophets%
\footnote{``the prophets'': \koine{}W many; ``Isaiah the prophet'':
\hesychian{} few}\footnote{A composite quotation: Mal.3:1, Isa.40:3}:
\begin{verse}
Behold I send my messenger before your face, \\
Which will prepare your way, \\
\VS{3}[A] voice in the wilderness: \\
Prepare the way of [the] Lord, \\
Make straight his paths.
\end{verse}
\VS{4} \John appeared, the [one] baptizing in the wilderness preaching baptism of repentance for remission of sins.
\VS{5} And all the \Judean region and all the inhabitants of \Ieros were going forth to him and were being baptized
by him in the \Jordan river confessing their sins.
\VS{6} And \John had
clothed himself [with] camel's hairs and [a] leather belt [about] his loins,
and eating locusts and wild honey.
\VS{7} And he was preaching saying:
[One] mightier [than] me comes after me,
of whom I am not sufficient having stooped down to loose the thong of his sandals.
\VS{8} I baptized you with water, but he himself will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
\subsubsection{The Baptism and Temptation of \Iesous}
\VS{9} And it came to pass in those days
[that] \Iesous from \Nazareth of \Galilee came and was baptized in the \Jordan by \John.
\VS{10} And immediately coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being rent
and the spirit as [a] dove coming down to him.
\VS{11} And [a] voice came to be out of the heavens:
You are my agape-beloved son, in you I am well pleased.
\VS{12} And immediately the spirit drives him into the wilderness.
\VS{13} And he was in the wilderness forty days being tested by \Satan,
and he was with the wild-beasts, and the angels were serving him.
\subsubsection{Preaching in \Galilee and the Call of the Disciples}
\VS{14} And after \John was handed over, \Iesous came to \Galilee
preaching the good news of the Kingdom of God%
\footnote{``good-news of the Kingdom of God'' DW\koine{}\vulgate{} many; ``good-news of God'': \sinaiticus{}B few },
\VS{15} and saying: The opportune-time\fnKairos{} has been completed and the Kingdom of God is at hand.
Be repenting and be trusting\fnPistis{} in the good news.
\VS{16} And passing by the side of the sea of \Galilee he saw \Simon and \Andrew
the brothers of \Simon casting nets in the sea, for they were fishermen.
\VS{17} And \Iesous said to them: Follow after me, and I will make you to become fishers of people\fnAnthropos{}.
\VS{18} And immediately having left [their] nets they followed him.
\VS{19} And having gone forward [a] little he saw \Jacob\fnJacob{} the [son] of \Zebedee
and \John his brother and [saw] them in the ship mending the nets
\VS{20} And immediately he called them, and having left their father \Zebedee
in the ship with the hired servants they went after him.
\subsubsection{\Iesous's Authority}
\VS{21} And they go into \Kapernaoum and immediately on the Sabbath having gone into the synagogue he was teaching.
\VS{22} And they were being amazed concerning his teaching,
for he was teaching them as having authority and not as the scribes.
\VS{23} And immediately there was in their synagogue [a] man in [an] unclean spirit
and he cried out
\VS{24} saying: What [is in common] to us and to you, \Iesous the \Nazarene?
Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the holy [one] of God!
\VS{25} And \Iesous admonished him saying: Be silenced and go out of him.
\VS{26} And the unclean spirit, having convulsed him and having cried out with [a] loud voice,
he went out of him.
\VS{27} And all were astonished, so that they were discussing saying:
Who is this? [Here is] new teaching according to authority,
and he commands the unclean spirits, and they obey him.
\VS{28} And immediately the report of him went out everywhere
to all the surrounding region of \Galilee.
\subsubsection{Healings at \Simon's House}
\VS{29} And immediately having gone out of the synagogue he went to \Simon's
and \Andrew's house with \Jacob\fnJacob{} and \John.
\VS{30} But \Simon's mother-in-law being ill of [a] fever was lying down,
and immediately they speak to him concerning her.
\VS{31} And having drawn near he raised her, having taken hold of her hand;
and the fever went from her, and she was serving him.
\VS{32} But evening having come, when the sun had set,
they were bringing to him all those having [it] badly\footnote{That is, ill.}, and those being possessed,
\VS{33} and the whole city was gathered at the door.
\VS{34} And he healed many having [it] badly with various diseases,
and he cast out many demons, and he was not permitting the demons to be speaking,
because they had known him%
\footnote{text: \sinaiticus{}D \koine{} \vulgate{}; ``to be the Anointed\fnChristos{} [One]'': BW}.
\subsubsection{Praying and Preaching}
\VS{35} And very early by night having risen up, he came out and went away to [a] deserted place,
and there he was praying.
\VS{36} And \Simon and those with him pursued him closely,
\VS{37} and found him and say to him that all look for him.
\VS{38} And he says to them: Let us go elsewhere to the near country towns
in order that I also preach there; for I came for this.
\VS{39} And he came preaching in their synagogues in all \Galilee and casting out demons.
\subsubsection{Cleansing a Leper}
\VS{40} And [a] leper comes to him calling him and falling down before him saying to him:
If you be wishing, you are able to be making me clean.
\VS{41} And having felt compassion and having stretched out his hand
he laid hold [of him] and says to him:
I wish [it], be cleansed.
\VS{42} And immediately the leprosy came out from him and he was cleansed.
\VS{43} And having sternly admonished him he sent him away,
\VS{44} and says to him: Be seeing [that] you say nothing to no one\footnote{Double negatives in Greek indicate emphasis},
but be departing,
show yourself to the priest and offer concerning your cleansing [that] which \Moses prescribed beforehand,
for a witness to them.
\VS{45} But having gone out he began to be preaching much and to be spreading around the word\fnLogos{},
so that [he] no longer [was] able to openly enter into [a] city,
but was outside at wilderness places;
and they were coming to him from all sides.
