\subsubsection{\Iesous Brought Before \Pilate}
|
|
\VS{1} And immediately early after they prepared counsel,
|
|
the high priests with the elders and scribes and all the Sanhedrin,
|
|
having bound \Iesous, [they] led [him] away and gave him over to \Pilate.
|
|
\VS{2} And \Pilate questioned him,
|
|
Are you the king of the Jews? He answers him saying: You say [it].
|
|
\VS{3} And the chief priests were accusing much of him.
|
|
\VS{4} And \Pilate again asked him saying:
|
|
Don't you answer anything? Behold they accuse much [of you].
|
|
\VS{5} But \Iesous no longer answered anything, so that \Pilate was being amazed.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{\Iesous and \Barabbas}
|
|
\VS{6} Now at [the] festival he used to release to them one prisoner that they were requesting.
|
|
\VS{7} And [there] was [one] being called \Barabbas having been bound with rebels,
|
|
which in the revolt had committed murder.
|
|
\VS{8} And the crowd having come up began to be asking just as he used to do for them.
|
|
\VS{9} Then \Pilate answered them saying:
|
|
Do you wish I release to you the king of the Jews?
|
|
\VS{10} For he was knowing that because of jealousy the chief priests had handed him over.
|
|
\VS{11} But the chief priests had incited the crowd that he release to them \Barabbas instead.
|
|
\VS{12} And again \Pilate answering was saying to them:
|
|
What therefore should I do [with respect to] whom you call the King of Jews?
|
|
\VS{13} And they again screamed: Crucify him!
|
|
\VS{14} Then \Pilate was saying to them, Why?
|
|
What evil did he do? But they screamed even more: Crucify him!
|
|
\VS{15} And \Pilate wishing the crowd to be satisfied, he released to them \Barabbas,
|
|
and handed over \Iesous after [he was] flogged that he be crucified.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{\Iesous is Mocked}
|
|
\VS{16} Now the soldiers lead him away into the courtyard, which is [the] Praetorium,
|
|
and they call together the whole cohort.
|
|
\VS{17} And they dress him [in] purple and put on him [a] crown having woven thorns.
|
|
\VS{18} And they began [to be] greeting him, Hail, king of the Jews!
|
|
\VS{19} And they were beating his head with [a] staff and were spitting on him,
|
|
and kneeling they were worshipping him.
|
|
\VS{20} And when they ridiculed him they stripped off him the purple and put his robe on him.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Crucifixion}
|
|
\VS{21} And they lead him out that they may crucify him.
|
|
And they compel [one] passing by, a certain \Simon [the] Cyrenian coming from [the] countryside,
|
|
the father of Al\'{e}xandros and Ro\'{u}fos, that he bear his cross.
|
|
\VS{22} And they lead him up to the place \Golgotha,
|
|
which is being translated Place of the Skull.
|
|
\VS{23} And they were giving to him wine treated with myrrh that however he did not take.
|
|
\VS{24} And they crucify him, and they divide his robe,
|
|
throwing lots upon it who would take what.
|
|
\VS{25} Now it was [the] third hour%
|
|

|
|
and they crucified him.
|
|
\VS{26} And the superscription of his accusation was written, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
|
|
\VS{27} And two insurrectionists are crucified with him, one on his left.
|
|
\VS{28} And the Scripture was fulfilled, the [one] saying:
|
|
And with the lawless is he reckoned%
|
|

\VS{29} And those passing by were slandering him shaking their heads and saying:
|
|
Aha! The [one] destroying the temple and building [it] in three days,
|
|
\VS{30} save yourself by coming down from the cross.
|
|
\VS{31} Likewise also the chief priests ridiculing among one another with the scribes were saying:
|
|
He saved others, himself he is not able to save!
|
|
\VS{32} The Anointed\fnChristos{} [One] the king of \Israel,
|
|
let him come down\fnImperative{} now from the cross, that we may see and believe!
|
|
And those being crucified with him were reproaching him.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{\Iesous's Death}
|
|
\VS{33} And when the sixth hour%
|
|

|
|
came to pass, darkness came on all the
|
|
land until the ninth hour
|
|

\VS{34} And in the ninth hour \Iesous cried out with [a] loud voice:
|
|
Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachtani, which is being translated:
|
|
My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
|
|
\VS{35} And certain [people] standing by who heard were saying: Behold he calls \Elias.
|
|
\VS{36} And someone having run, having filled [a] sponge [with] sour wine,
|
|
having put [it] on [a] staff, was giving it to drink, saying:
|
|
Wait, let us see if \Elias comes to take him down.
|
|
\VS{37} But \Iesous, uttering [a] great cry, breathed out his last.
|
|
\VS{38} And the veil of the temple was rent in two from top to bottom.
|
|
\VS{39} And when the centurion, the [one] having been present opposite him,
|
|
saw that having cried out%
|
|

|
he thus breathed out his last, he said: Truly this was the Son of God.
|
|
\VS{40} And there were also women observing from afar,
|
|
among whom [were] \Mary the \Magdalene, and \Mary,
|
|
mother of \Jacob\fnJacob{} the younger and \Joses, and \Salome
|
|
\VS{41} who, when he was in \Galilee, were following him and serving him,
|
|
also many others who came up to \Ieros with him.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{\Iesous's Burial}
|
|
\VS{42} And having already become evening,
|
|
[and] since it was [the] Day of Preparation, which is the day before [a] Sabbath,
|
|
\VS{43} \Joseph from \Arimathea having come, [a] respected member of the council,
|
|
who also himself was looking for the Kingdom of God, having taken it upon himself,
|
|
went in to \Pilate and requested the body of \Iesous.
|
|
\VS{44} And \Pilate wondered if he had already died,
|
|
and having summoned the centurion, asked if he already died.
|
|
\VS{45} And confirming [it] from the centurion, he presented the body to \Joseph.
|
|
\VS{46} And having bought muslin and having taken [him] down,
|
|
they wrapped him with the muslin and placed him in [a] sepulcher that had been hewn out of rock,
|
|
and rolled [a] stone up to the door of the sepulcher.
|
|
\VS{47} And \Mary the \Magdalene and \Mary the [mother] of \Joses
|
|
were observing where he had been placed.
|
