\subsubsection{Healing and Forgiving a Paralytic}
|
|
\VS{1} And having stepped into the boat, he crossed over and came to his own city.
|
|
\VS{2} And behold they were bringing to him [a] paralytic lying on [a] bed. And
|
|
\Iesous having seen their belief he said to the paralytic: Be taking courage,
|
|
child, your sins are forgiven you.
|
|
\VS{3} And behold some of the scribes
|
|
said among themselves: This [man] slanders [God].
|
|
\VS{4} And \Iesous having known their
|
|
thoughts said: For what reason do you think wicked\fnPoneros{} [things] in your hearts?
|
|
\VS{5} For which is easier, to say: Your sins are forgiven, or to say: Be rising
|
|
and be walking?
|
|
\VS{6} But that you may see that the son of man has
|
|
authority on the earth to be forgiving sins --- then he says to the paralytic:
|
|
Be rising, carry your bed and be going to your own house.
|
|
\VS{7} And having arisen, he departed to his own house.
|
|
\VS{8} And having seen [this], the crowd was
|
|
afraid\footnote{``afraid'' \sinaiticus{}BDW \vulgate{} \hesychian{}; ``astonished'' \koine{} } and glorified God who gave such authority to men.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Call of \Matthew; Eating with Sinners}
|
|
\VS{9} And proceeding from there \Iesous saw [a] man sitting at [a] tax-booth,
|
|
called \Matthew, and he says to him: Be following me. And having stood up, he
|
|
followed him.
|
|
\VS{10} And it came to pass when he was seated at table in the
|
|
house that, behold, many tax-collectors and sinners came and sat down at
|
|
table with \Iesous and his disciples.
|
|
\VS{11} And the Pharisees having seen
|
|
this were saying to his disciples: Why does your teacher eat with
|
|
tax-collectors and sinners?
|
|
\VS{12} But having heard this he said: The
|
|
healthy have no need of [a] physician, rather those having [it] evil-ly.
|
|
\VS{13} But go and learn what it means\footnote{Hos.6:6}:
|
|
|
|
\begin{verse}
|
|
I desire mercy and not sacrifice.
|
|
\end{verse}
|
|
|
|
For I did not come to call [the] just, but sinners.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Superiority of the New}
|
|
\VS{14} Then the disciples of \John come to him saying: Why do we and the
|
|
Pharisees fast but your disciples do not fast?
|
|
\VS{15} And \Iesous said to
|
|
them: Can the sons of the bridegroom mourn as long as the groom is with
|
|
them? But the day will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and
|
|
then they will fast.
|
|
\VS{16} For no one puts [a] piece of new cloth on [an] old
|
|
garment, for that which fills it up will take from it, and the tear will
|
|
become worse.
|
|
\VS{17} No one puts new wine into old skins, lest the skins be
|
|
burst, and the wine run out and the skins be ruined. Rather they put new
|
|
wine into new skins and both will be preserved.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Restoration and Healing}
|
|
\VS{18} [While] he was saying these [things] behold [a] ruler coming to him kneels before him saying: My daughter even now has come to the end. But come and lay your hand
|
|
upon her, and she will zoe-live\fnZoe{}.
|
|
\VS{19} And having arisen, \Iesous and his disciples followed him.
|
|
\VS{20} And behold [a] woman having [a] discharge of blood
|
|
for twelve years came after him [and] grasped the hem of his robe.
|
|
\VS{21} For
|
|
she was saying in herself: If only I grasp his robe, I will be saved.
|
|
\VS{22} But \Iesous having turned and seen her said: Be taking courage,
|
|
daughter, your belief has made you whole. And the woman was made whole from
|
|
that hour.
|
|
\VS{23} And \Iesous having come to the ruler's house and having
|
|
seen the flute players and the crowd making an uproar,
|
|
\VS{24} he was saying: Be withdrawing, for the girl is not dead but sleeps.
|
|
And they were laughing at him.
|
|
\VS{25} Now when the crowd was thrown out, having gone in,
|
|
he took hold of her hand, and the girl arose.
|
|
\VS{26} And this report went out into all that land.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Healing the Blind and Mute}
|
|
\VS{27} And when \Iesous went out from there two blind men followed him crying
|
|
out and saying: Have mercy on us, son of \David.
|
|
\VS{28} So when he entered
|
|
into the house, the blind men came in to him, and \Iesous says to them: Do you
|
|
believe that I am able to do this? They say to him, Yes Lord.
|
|
|
|
\VS{29} Then
|
|
he touched their eyes saying: According to your belief be it to you.
|
|
\VS{30} And their eyes were opened. And he strictly-charged
|
|
%\footnote{also means: ``snort with rage'' }
|
|
them saying: See that no one knows of this.
|
|
\VS{31} But having gone out they made it known to all that land.
|
|
|
|
\VS{32} Now when he had gone out, behold they brought to him [a] mute
|
|
who was demon possessed.
|
|
\VS{33} And when the demon had been cast out the mute spoke. And the crowd marveled
|
|
saying: Never was it thus seen in \Israel.
|
|
\VS{24} But the Pharisees were
|
|
saying: By the ruler of demons he casts out demons.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Workers for the Harvest}
|
|
\VS{35} And \Iesous went about all the cities and all the towns, teaching in
|
|
the synagogues and teaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every
|
|
disease and weakness.
|
|
\VS{36} And having seen the crowd he had compassion
|
|
for them, for they were troubled\footnote{``rent,'' ``mangled''} and thrown
|
|
about as sheep having no shepherd.
|
|
\VS{37} Then he says to his disciples:
|
|
The harvest is great, but the workers are few.
|
|
\VS{38} Therefore ask the
|
|
Lord of the harvest that he throw workers into his harvest.
|
