\subsubsection{The Mission of the Seventy-Two}
|
|
\VS{1} Now after these [things] the Lord commissioned another seventy\footnote{``seventy''
|
|
\sinaiticus{}WH \koine\ most; ``seventy-two'' \papyrus{75} BD \vulgate{} } and sent them by twos before his face into every city and place where he was [about] to come.
|
|
\VS{2} But he was
|
|
saying to them: On the one hand the harvest is great, but on the other the
|
|
workers are few. Ask therefore of the Lord of the harvest that he throw
|
|
workers to his harvest.
|
|
\VS{3} Be departing, Behold I send you as sheep in
|
|
the midst of wolves.
|
|
\VS{4} Be not taking purse, nor knapsack, nor sandal,
|
|
and greet no one on the road.
|
|
\VS{5} But into whatever house you enter,
|
|
first be saying: Peace to this house.
|
|
\VS{6} And if the son of peace be
|
|
there, your peace will rest upon it, but if not, it will return to you.
|
|
\VS{7} But in that house be abiding, eating and drinking from them, for [a]
|
|
worker is worthy of his reward. Be not moving from house to house.
|
|
\VS{8} And into whatever city you enter and they receive you, be eating what they
|
|
set before you,
|
|
\VS{9} and be healing those in weakness, and be saying to
|
|
them: The kingdom of God is at hand upon you.
|
|
\VS{10} But into whatever city
|
|
you enter and they receive you not, going out into the streets of it say:
|
|
\VS{11} Even the dust having clung to us from your city to [our] feet do we wipe
|
|
off to you. Nevertheless this you know, that the kingdom is at hand.
|
|
\VS{12} I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than that
|
|
city.
|
|
|
|
\VS{13} Woe to you, Chorazin, woe to you, Bethsaida; for if in Tyre
|
|
and Sidon had come to pass the powers that came to pass among you, long ago
|
|
having sat in sackcloth and ashes would they have repented.
|
|
\VS{14}
|
|
Nevertheless for Tyre and Sidon will it be more tolerable in the judgment
|
|
than for you.
|
|
\VS{15} And you, Capernaum, Not until heaven is exalted? Until Hades\fnHades{} is brought low.
|
|
|
|
\VS{16} The [one] hearing [of you] hears of me, and the [one] rejecting
|
|
you rejects me; but the [one] rejecting me rejects the [one] having sent me.
|
|
|
|
\VS{17} Now the seventy\footnote{``seventy'' \sinaiticus{}W \hesychian \koine\ most; ``seventy-two''
|
|
\papyrus{45,75} BD \vulgate{} } returned with joy saying: Lord, even the demons were
|
|
subject to us in your name.
|
|
\VS{18} So he said to them: I have beheld Satan
|
|
as lightning having fallen from heaven.
|
|
\VS{19} Behold to you twelve [is] the
|
|
authority to trample over snakes and scorpions, and upon all the power of
|
|
the enemy, and \negd{NOTHING} will do you any injustice.
|
|
\VS{20} Nevertheless in this be not glorying that the spirits are subordinate to
|
|
you, but be rejoicing that your names are written\footnote{or ``have been
|
|
written''} in the heavens.
|
|
|
|
\VS{21} In that hour he exulted in the Holy Spirit
|
|
and said: I confess to\footnote{or ``admit to," ``agree with"} you, father
|
|
Lord of heaven and [the] earth, that you have hidden these [things] from the wise and intelligent, and have revealed these [things] to children; Yes, O father, that thus
|
|
[your] good pleasure comes to pass before you.
|
|
\VS{22} These [things] have been delivered
|
|
up to me by my father, and no one knows who is the son except the father,
|
|
and [no one knows] who is the father except the son, and to whom the son intends to
|
|
reveal.
|
|
|
|
\VS{23} And having turned to the disciples privately he said:
|
|
Blessed [are] the eyes seeing what you see.
|
|
\VS{24} For I say to you that many
|
|
prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and they did not see, and to
|
|
hear what you hear, and they did not hear.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Parable of the Good Samaritan}
|
|
\VS{25} And behold [a] certain lawyer stood up testing him saying: Having done
|
|
what will I inherit eternal zoe-life\fnZoe{}?
|
|
\VS{26} But he said to him: What is
|
|
written in the law? How do you read [it]?
|
|
\VS{27} So answering he said: You will
|
|
agape-love the Lord your God in your whole heart and in your whole psyche-life\fnPsyche{} and
|
|
in your whole strength and in your whole mind, and your neighbor as
|
|
yourself.
|
|
\VS{28} So he said to him: You have answered correctly. Do
|
|
this\footnote{singular} and you will zoe-live\fnZoe{}.
|
|
\VS{29} But he wishing to justify himself said to Jesus: And who is my neighbor?
|
|
|
|
\VS{30} Replying Jesus said:
|
|
A certain man came down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves,
|
|
who stripped him and having laid blows they departed leaving him half dead.
|
|
\VS{31} Now by chance [a] certain priest came down in that road, and seeing him
|
|
passed by on the opposite side.
|
|
\VS{32} And likewise also [a] Levite having
|
|
come by the place and seeing him passed by on the other side.
|
|
\VS{33} Now
|
|
[a] certain Samaritan journeying came by him and seeing [him] had compassion,
|
|
\VS{34} and having come to him bound his wounds, pouring upon [them] olive oil and
|
|
wine, and having put him on his own beast brought him to [an] inn and cared for
|
|
him.
|
|
\VS{35} And upon the morrow having taken out two denarii he gave [them] to
|
|
the inn keeper and said: Care for him, and whatever you spend in addition I
|
|
when I return will repay you.
|
|
\VS{36} Who of these three seems to you to
|
|
have become neighbor of the [one] having fallen among the thieves?
|
|
\VS{37} So he
|
|
said: The [one] having done mercy to him. Jesus said to him: Be going and you be
|
|
doing likewise.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Jesus and Martha}
|
|
\VS{38} Now when they proceeded he entered into [a] certain village, and [a]
|
|
certain woman, Martha by name, received him into her house.
|
|
\VS{39} Now
|
|
there was this sister being called Mariam, who having sat at his feet heard
|
|
his word.
|
|
\VS{40} Now Martha was overburdened concerning much service. So
|
|
having stood [before him] she said: Lord, doesn't it matter to you that my only sister
|
|
abandons me to the serving? Speak therefore to her that she help me.
|
|
\VS{41} But answering the Lord said to her: Martha, Martha, You are anxious and
|
|
troubled concerning many [things].
|
|
\VS{42} But one is needful, and Mariam has chosen
|
|
the good portion, which will not be taken from her.
