\subsection{I John 2}
\VS{1} My children, these [things] I write to you in order that you not sin. And if anyone
sin, we have [an] advocate\fnParacletos{} with the father, Jesus Christ [the] just.
\VS{2} And he is appeasement for our sins, not for our sins only but also for [those] of the
whole world.
\VS{3} And by this we know that we have known him, if we be keeping his commandments.
\VS{4} The [one] saying that he has known him, and not
keeping his commandments, is [a] liar, and the truth is not in him.
\VS{5} But whoever keeps his word, truly is the agape-love of God
completed\footnote{or
``perfected''} in him. By this we know that we are in him.
\VS{6} The [one]
saying [he is] abiding in him ought also to be thus walking just as he walked.
\VS{7} Agape-beloved, I do not write to you [a] new commandment, but [an] old
commandment which you had from [the] beginning, the old commandment is the word
which you heard.
\VS{8} Again I write to you [a] new commandment, which is true
in him and in you, that darkness departs and the true light already shines.
\VS{9} The [one] saying [he] is in the light and hating his brother is still in
darkness.
\VS{10} The [one] agape-loving his brother abides in the light, and
stumbling is not in him.
\VS{11} But the [one] hating his brother is in darkness
and walks in darkness, and he does not know where he departs, because
darkness has blinded his eyes.
\VS{12} I write to you, children, because
[your] sins are forgiven you on account of his name.
\VS{13} I write to you,
fathers, because you have known him [who is] from the beginning. I write to you,
young [men], because you have conquered the wicked\fnPoneros{} [one].
\VS{14} I have written to
you, children, because you have known the father. I have written to you,
fathers, because you have known him [who is] from the beginning. I have written to
you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God abides in you and
you have conquered the wicked\fnPoneros{} [one].
\VS{15} Be not agape-loving the world nor
the [things] in the world. If anyone be agape-loving the world, the agape-love of
the father is not in him.
\VS{16} For everything in the world, the lust of
the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pretense\footnote{or ``pride''}
of life are not from the father, but are from the world.
\VS{17} And the
world passes away and its lust, but the [one] doing the will of God abides to
eternity.
\VS{18} Children, [the] last hour is [here], and just as you heard that [the]
antichrist comes, now also are many antichrists come to be; whence we know
that the last hour is [here].
\VS{19} They went out from us, but they were not
from us. For if they were from us, they would have abided with us. But [they went out] in
order that they be made manifest that they are not from us.
\VS{20} And you
have [an] anointing from the holy [one], and you know everything.
\VS{21} I have not
written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know
it, and because every liar is not from the truth.
\VS{22} Who is the liar
except the [one] denying that Jesus is the Christ? This [one] is the antichrist, the
[one] denying the father and the son.
\VS{23} Everyone denying the son neither
has the father. The [one] professing the son also has the father.
\VS{24} What you heard from [the] beginning, let\fnImperative{} [it] be abiding in you. If what you heard from [the] beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the
son and in the father.
\VS{25} And this is the promise that he promised to you: eternal zoe-life\fnZoe{}.
\VS{26} These [things] I have written to you concerning those deceiving you.
\VS{27} And the anointing which you received from him abides
in you, and you have no need that anyone be teaching you. But as his
anointing teaches you concerning everything, and it is true and is not
false, and just as it was teaching you, be abiding in him.
\VS{28} And now,
children, be abiding in him, in order that if he be manifested we have
boldness and not be shamed before him in his coming.
\VS{29} If you know
that he is just, you know that everyone doing justice is begotten from him.
