> His Lovingkindness Endures Forever
>> Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his lovingkindness endures forever.
Occasion: When blessings feel ordinary
This cup of water tastes like nothing special, Lord.
The light comes on.
The door shuts.
The bed held me through the night.
Meh.
None of this asks for my attention.
So I hurry past it,
already thinking about what is missing,
what is late,
what has gone wrong.
Teach me to see what I step over.
Teach me to notice the gifts that do not announce themselves.
I can live inside Your kindness all day
and call it ordinary.
I can treat steady mercies like the hum of a machine
that I've learned not to notice at all.
Forgive me for how easily I confuse
what is familiar with what is small.
I do not want to need loss
to learn gratitude.
Wake me to the plain good near at hand.
Easy breath.
Clean water.
A body that rose this morning.
A caring voice that answered when I called.
Let me pause long enough to receive these things,
not as what I am owed,
but as quiet mercies holding my life together.
This cup of water.
Let me receive even this cup of water as kindness.
Which is exactly what it is.
Amen.
