> Lead Me in Uprightness
>> Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.

Occasion: Needing moral clarity
Lord, things have gone muddy.
Every reason has another reason behind it.
Every voice says it is simple,
but nothing feels simple at all.
I keep turning it over,
hoping more thought will make the answer clear.
Instead, I find more ways to excuse what I want
and more reasons to distrust what I know.
Cut a clean line through it.
Show me what is right,
not what is expedient,
not what saves face,
not what asks the least of me.
I can talk myself into almost anything
when the gain is close
and the cost is hidden.
You know how easily fear can sound like wisdom
and self-interest like necessity.
Let Your Spirit lead me onto firm ground,
where I can name the lie a lie
and the good a good,
without trimming either one.
Give me courage to accept what is right
even if it costs more than I hoped,
and enough humility to admit
where I have been wrong.
Things have gone muddy, Lord.
Bring me where the ground is firm again,
and teach me to walk there.
Amen.
