> Rest In the LORD
>> Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.
Occasion: Envy over someone else's success
That name comes up again, Lord.
More praise.
More doors opening.
More signs that life is moving for them
when it isn't for me.
I do not like what arises in me.
Their success begins to feel like evidence
that I have been overlooked.
I compare what can be seen of their life
with all the waiting and uncertainty in mine,
and I come away smaller, jealous, ashamed.
Cut envy off before it settles in the chest.
Teach me how to bless what is good,
whoever is being blessed,
without shrinking into myself.
And when I cannot yet bless gladly,
help me at least to be honest with You
and quiet enough not to turn envy into contempt.
If I keep staring at their harvest,
I will despise my own field.
I will miss the work You have set in front of me.
Turn my face back to the ground under my feet.
Give me gladness for today's bread,
for today’s task,
for one honest step.
Teach me to wait without treating waiting
as proof that You have forgotten me.
Their field is theirs.
Keep me faithful to mine.
Amen.
