> In Peace I Will Sleep
>> In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you alone, the LORD, make me live in safety.
Occasion: Trouble falling asleep
Lord, the room is dark
and my body is still awake ---
the pillow turned to the cool side,
the blanket pushed off and pulled back,
the clock still bright.
I am tired, but sleep will not come.
My body cannot settle,
and my mind keeps returning to what is unfinished,
what might happen,
what tomorrow will ask of me.
I keep reaching for my phone,
keep counting the hours I'm losing,
making this bed a place of stress.
The harder I try to rest,
the farther away it retreats.
Let my thoughts grow quiet enough to lie still.
I do not need every question answered tonight.
Give me the simple trust to leave this night with You,
even if sleep comes slowly.
Let the mattress hold my weight.
Let my breathing soften.
Let my eyes close without a fight.
The clock can keep its numbers.
You keep this room.
You keep this bed.
You keep me through the night.
Amen.
