> No One Cares for My Soul
>> Look on my right, and see; for there is no one who cares for me. Refuge has fled from me. No one cares for my soul.
Occasion: During a lonely season
I've heard too much silence, Lord.
The chair across from me stays empty.
Evening comes.
I turn the lock and enter.
No one else comes.
Some days I manage well enough.
Other days, the quiet feels heavier than it should,
and I do not know what to do when my words pile up
and there's no one to share them with.
Stay near when the hours linger.
Let me know the difference
between solitude that clears the mind
and loneliness that eats through it.
And when I cannot tell the difference,
keep me from disappearing into myself.
When no one calls,
I can believe no one will ever come.
Then I pull back further.
I tell myself it is easier not to hope
than to feel forgotten again.
You think of me.
You care for me.
Help me trust that You still see me
when I feel unseen by everyone else.
Send me steady company.
A voice that waits for the answer.
A table where I am welcome.
And make me brave enough to go when invited,
even if I feel awkward,
even if I have forgotten how to begin.
I'm weary of so much silence.
Hear my prayer,
and, in whatever way You choose,
I will hear Your answer.
Amen. |
