<P class=MsoNormal style="BACKGROUND: white; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-ansi-language: DE"><SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_3>Das Musizieren auf gefüllten Wassergläsern wurde in Europa 1743 bekannt, als <SPAN class=systran_spellcheck id=spellcheck_2>Richard</SPAN> <I><SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_3>Pockrich</SPAN></I> in Dublin sich als Erfinder dieses Instrumen&shy;tes vorstellte und produzierte.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_4><SPAN class=systran_spellcheck id=spellcheck_3>Gluck</SPAN> gab 1746 in London ein Konzert auf solchen Gläsern und rühmte sich selbst dieser Erfindung.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_5>Erst 1762 tauchte in London die sogenannte <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_5>Glasharmonika</SPAN> auf, ein wirkliches Instrument, das auf einer metallenen Achse eine Reihe von gläsernen Schalen in stufenweise zunehmender Größe trug, das Ganze durch einen einfachen Mechanismus mit dem Fuße des Spielers beweglich.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_6>Wie bei den Trink&shy;gläsern, die verschieden hoch mit Wasser gefüllt waren, wurde die Har&shy;monika, deren Gläser waagrecht standen, mit angefeuchteten Fingern an den Rändern gestrichen.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_7>Der Klang soll <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_9>bezaubernd</SPAN> gewesen sein, die Handhabung für den Spieler aber <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_10>enervierend</SPAN>.</SPAN></SPAN><o:p></o:p></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="BACKGROUND: white; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-ansi-language: DE"><SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_8>Die Konstruktion der ersten <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_11>Glasharmonika</SPAN> geht auf keinen Gerin&shy;geren als <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_12>Benjamin <I>Franklin</I></SPAN> zurück, und <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_13>Marianne <I>Dayies</I></SPAN> (1744—92), die erste Meisterin dieses Instrumentes, soll mit ihm verwandt gewesen sein.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_9>Sie war schon zwischen 1751 und 1756 in London aufgetreten, spielte aber damals noch das <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_15>Harpsichord</SPAN>, daneben auch die Flöte.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_10>Ihre Schwester <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_16>Cäcilia</SPAN> (ca. 1750—1836) wurde Opernsängerin.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_11><SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_17>Marianne</SPAN> ist im Februar 1762 in London zum ersten Male mit der Harmonika aufgetreten.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_12>Von 1768 bis</SPAN>&nbsp;&nbsp; <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_13>1773 <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_19>bereisten</SPAN> die Schwestern,&nbsp; in&nbsp; Begleitung ihrer Eltern, den Kontinent, besonders Wien und Oberitalien.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_14>1768 lernten sie in Wien den später berühmt gewordenen <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_20>Magnetiseur</SPAN> Dr. <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_21>Anton Mesmer</SPAN> kennen, der 1773 schon seine eigene Harmonika hatte.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_15>In Wien trafen sie 1768 auch mit der Familie Mozart zusammen und begegneten <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_23>Leopold</SPAN> und Wolfgang&nbsp; 1771&nbsp; in Mailand wieder.</SPAN></SPAN><o:p></o:p></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="BACKGROUND: white; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-ansi-language: DE"><SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_16>Bei ihrem ersten Aufenthalt, in Wien, von 1768 auf 1769, wohnten sie in einem Hause mit dem Komponisten <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_24>Johann Adolf</SPAN> <I>Hasse</I> und seiner Frau, der Sängerin <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_25>Faustina Bordoni</SPAN>.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_17>Durch Hasse scheinen die Schwestern mit <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_26>Pietro <I>Metastasio</I></SPAN><I>,</I> dem Hofpoeten, bekannt geworden zu sein.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_18>Das Ergebnis dieser Umstände war eine <SPAN class=systran_spellcheck id=spellcheck_4>Ode</SPAN>, gedichtet von <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_27>Metastasio</SPAN> und komponiert von Hasse, am 27. Juni 1769 bei <SPAN class=systran_spellcheck id=spellcheck_5>Hofe</SPAN> gesungen von <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_28>Cäcilia</SPAN> und auf der Harmonika begleitet von <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_30>Marianne Davies</SPAN>.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_19>Der Anlaß war die Hochzeit der Erzherzogin Maria <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_31>Amalia</SPAN> mit dem spanischen <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_32>Infanten Ferdinand</SPAN> von <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_33>Bourbon</SPAN>, Herzog von <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_34>Parma</SPAN> und <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_35>Piacenza</SPAN>;</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_20>die Hochzeit fand an jenem Tage nur „in <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_36>proxi</SPAN>" statt, erst am 19, Juli zu <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_37>Colonna</SPAN> „in <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_38>persona</SPAN>".</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_21>Das Titelblatt jener „<SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_39>Poesia</SPAN>" erwähnt den berühmten Dr. <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_40>Franklin</SPAN> als Erfinder der Harmonika, des für Wien noch neuen Instrumentes.</SPAN></SPAN><o:p></o:p></P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="BACKGROUND: white; mso-layout-grid-align: none"><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-ansi-language: DE"><SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_22>Durch dieses Auftreten bei <SPAN class=systran_spellcheck id=spellcheck_6>Hofe</SPAN> hatten die Schwestern offenbar die Gunst der Kaiserin Maria <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_42>Theresia</SPAN> gewonnen.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_23>Darauf bezieht sich <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_43>Meta&shy;stasio</SPAN> in dem Empfehlungsschreiben, das die <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_44>Davies</SPAN> 1772 in <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_45>Neapel</SPAN> ein&shy;führen sollte, wo eine andere Tochter der Kaiserin, Maria <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_46>Karolina</SPAN>, als Gattin eines anderen <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_47>Bourbonen</SPAN>, <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_48>Ferdinand</SPAN></SPAN></SPAN><SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_23> <SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt">IV.,</SPAN> <SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-ansi-language: DE">residierte.</SPAN></SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 9pt; mso-ansi-language: DE"> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_24>Der Brief ist in einem Konzeptbuch <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_49>Metastasios</SPAN> erhalten geblieben, das die National&shy;bibliothek Wien verwahrt (<SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_50>Cod</SPAN>.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_25>10273, <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_51>fol</SPAN>.</SPAN> 258). <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_27>Die <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_52>Adressatin</SPAN> war Anna <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_53>Franziska Pignatelli</SPAN>, Fürstin von <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_54>Belmonte</SPAN>, Witwe nach einem General der kaiserlichen <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_55>Kürassiere</SPAN> und Mutter des Kardinalpriesters <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_56>Franz</SPAN> Maria <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_57>Pignatelli</SPAN>.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_28>Der Brief lautet in Übersetzung:</SPAN></SPAN><o:p></o:p></P>

April, wirkte Frl. <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_156>Kirchgessner</SPAN> neben <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_157>Haydn</SPAN> mit.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_98>Wir erfahren, daß sie eine „<SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_158>Sonate</SPAN>" gespielt hat, wahrscheinlich eine der sechs <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_159>Sonaten</SPAN>, die <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_160>J.G.Naumann</SPAN> für die Harmonika komponiert hatte.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_99>(„<SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_162>The Oracle</SPAN>", 5. April.) Aus einer Anzeige in „<SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_163>The Times</SPAN>" vom 8.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_100>Mai 1795 erfahren wir noch, daß Frl. <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_164>Kirchgessner</SPAN> im Frühling dieses Jahres in ihrer Wohnung, 57 Poland <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_165>Street</SPAN>, <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_166>Soho</SPAN>, auf ihrer „<SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_167>Grand Harmonica</SPAN>" täglich zweimal, von J bis 3 und von 7 bis 9, Konzerte gab und daß die Besucher 5 <SPAN class=systran_spellcheck id=spellcheck_12>Shilling</SPAN> zahlten.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_101>Es heißt, daß Frl. <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_168>Kirchgessner</SPAN> in London ein neues Instrument bekommen habe, das ihr ein deutscher Mechaniker namens <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_169>Froeschel</SPAN> dort gebaut hätte.</SPAN> <SPAN class=systran_seg id=seg_102>Anfang 1806 kam sie noch einmal nach Wien, wo sie Mozarts <SPAN class=systran_nfw_source id=nfw_170>Quintett</SPAN> wieder spielte, und 1808 ist sie auf einer Schweizer Konzertreise in Schaffhausen gestorben.</SPAN></SPAN><o:p></o:p></P>
