\subsection{Hebrews 7}

\VS{1} For this Melchisedek, king of Salame, priest of the most high God, the [one]
|
|
having met Abraham when he returned from the defeat of the king and was
|
|
praising him,
|
|
\VS{2} to whom also Abraham divided [a] tenth from all, on the
|
|
one hand being first interpreted King of Justice, but then also king of
|
|
Salame, which is King of Peace.
|
|
\VS{3} Fatherless, motherless, without genealogy, having neither beginning of
|
|
days nor completion of zoe-life\fnZoe{}, being
|
|
similar to the son of God, remains priest forever.
|
|
\VS{4} But be beholding how great is this [one],
|
|
to whom Abraham the patriarch gave [a] tenth of the spoils.
|
|
\VS{5} And those on the one hand receiving the priesthood from the sons of
|
|
Levi have the commandment to collect [a] tenth from the people according to the
|
|
law, these are their brothers, although they have come from Abraham's loins.
|
|
\VS{6} On the other hand the [one] not tracing descent from them collected tithe
|
|
from Abraham, and he blessed the [one] having the promise.
|
|
\VS{7} But apart from every dispute the inferior is blessed by the superior.
|
|
\VS{8} And here on the one hand men who die receive [the] tithe,
|
|
but here [it is] witnessing that he zoe-lives\fnZoe{}.
|
|
\VS{9} And so to speak, through Abraham Levi, the [one] receiving the tithe, is
|
|
tithed.
|
|
\VS{10} For he was yet in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him.
|
|
\VS{11} If on the one hand therefore completion\footnote{or
|
|
``perfection''} was through the priesthood of Levi, for the people received
|
|
the law by it, what need [is there] still [for] another priest to arise according to the manner of Melchizedek, and not to be called according to the manner of Aaron?
|
|
\VS{12} For when the priesthood is transferred, out of necessity change of law also comes to pass.
|
|
\VS{13} For [about] whom these [things] are said, of
|
|
another tribe did he partake, from which no one officiated at the altar.
|
|
\VS{14} For [it is] clear that our Lord rose up out of Judah, to which tribe
|
|
concerning priests Moses spoke nothing.
|
|
\VS{15} And [a] greater is still very
|
|
clear, if according to the likeness of Melchizedek arises another priest,
|
|
\VS{16} who not according to [the] law of fleshly commandment comes to pass, but
|
|
according to the power of indestructible zoe-life\fnZoe{}.
|
|
\VS{17} For he witnessed
|
|
that: You are priest to eternity according to the manner [of] Melchizedek.
|
|
\VS{18} For setting aside comes to pass, when commandment precedes, through
|
|
its own weakness and uselessness.
|
|
\VS{19} For the law completed\footnote{or ``perfected''} no one, but [is an]
|
|
introduction to [a] greater hope, through which we draw near to God.
|
|
\VS{20} And to the degree that [it is] not apart from
|
|
oath-taking, --- for on the one hand without oath-taking they become
|
|
priests, but on the other hand [he is become priest] with oaths through whom says to him, The Lord swore, and will not change-his mind: You [are] priest to eternity ---
|
|
\VS{22} to the same degree [an] even greater contract\footnote{or ``testament'',
|
|
``covenant''} came to pass, [the] collateral [being] Jesus.
|
|
\VS{23} And on the one hand
|
|
more are become priests because of being prevented by death from abiding [in their office].
|
|
\VS{24} But on the other hand because of him remaining to eternity he has
|
|
[a] priesthood unchangeable.
|
|
\VS{25} Wherefore he is also able to be delivering
|
|
completely those coming through him to God, [and] to be always zoe-living\fnZoe{} to be
|
|
interceding in their behalf.
|
|
\VS{26} For such [a] chief-priest is also becoming
|
|
for us approved, without evil, undefiled, being\footnote{or ``having been''}
|
|
separated from sinners, and become higher than the heavens,
|
|
\VS{27} who does
|
|
not have daily necessity, as [did] the chief-priests, first in behalf of their
|
|
own sins to offer sacrifice, [and] then [in behalf of] those of the people. For this [one] made once and for all himself offered.
|
|
\VS{28} For the law appointed men chief-priests
|
|
having weakness, but the word of oath-taking after the law [appointed a] son being
|
|
perfect to eternity.
