\subsection{Revelation 17}
\VS{1} And one of the seven angels having the seven bowls came and spoke with me
saying: Come! I will show you the judgment of the great fornicatress having
sat upon many waters,
\VS{2} with whom the kings of the land fornicated,
and those dwelling on the land have been made drunk from the wine of her
fornication.
\VS{3} And he led me into [the] wilderness in the spirit; and I saw
[a] woman having sat upon [a] red wild-beast, full [of] names of slanders [against God], having
seven heads and ten horns.
\VS{4} And the woman was clothed with purple and
red, and bedecked with gold and with precious stones and with pearls, having
[a] golden cup in her hand full of abominations and unclean [things] of her
fornication.
\VS{5} And upon her head [was] written: Mystery, Babylon the
Great, the Mother of Fornicators and the Abominations of the Earth.
\VS{6} And I saw the woman drunk from the blood of the holy [ones] and from the blood of
those testifying of Jesus, and seeing her I marveled with great marvel.
\VS{7} And the angel said to me: Why do you marvel? I will tell you the
mystery of the woman and of the wild-beast carrying her which has seven
heads and ten horns.
\VS{8} The wild-beast, which you saw, was and is not,
and is [about] to be ascending from the abyss\footnote{or ``underworld''}, and he
goes to destruction. And those dwelling upon the land will marvel, whose
names are not written in the scroll of zoe-life\fnZoe{} from the foundation of the
world, seeing the beast that was and is not and is present.
\VS{9} Here [is] the
mind having wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman
sits, and they are seven kings.
\VS{10} The five fell, the one is, the other
has not yet come, and when he comes he must remain [a] little [while].
\VS{11} And the
wild-beast who was and is not, he himself is [the] eighth, and is from the seven
and goes to destruction.
\VS{12} And the ten horns which you saw are ten
kings, whose kingdoms they have not yet received, but authority as kings
they will receive for one hour with the wild-beast.
\VS{13} These have one
mind\footnote{or ``opinion''}, and will give their power and authority to
the wild-beast.
\VS{14} These war with the lamb and the lamb will overcome
them, for he is Lord of Lords and king of kings, and those with him [are] called
and chosen and trustworthy.
\VS{15} And he says to me: The waters which you
saw, where the fornicatress sits, are peoples and crowds and nations and
tongues.
\VS{16} And the ten horns which you saw, and the wild-beast, these
will hate the fornicatress, and will make her deserted and naked, and will
eat her flesh, and they will burn her with fire.
\VS{17} For God gave into
their hearts to do his mind\footnote{or ``opinion''}, and to do [with] one
mind\footnote{or ``opinion''} and to give their kingdoms to the wild-beast,
until the words of God be completed.
\VS{18} And the woman which you saw is
the great city having kingdom over the kings of the land.
