Daran wird auch Mendelssohn auf seiner intensiven Suche nach einer Harmonika, nebst Spieler, f\"{u}r eines seiner symphonischen Werke gescheitert sein (Brief an den Musiklehrer Helwig vom 1. Januar 1837; GB-Lbm/bl, Add.MS.33965, s. 225ff.), der Lucia aus \"{a}hnlichem Grund ohne Harmonika stattfinden mu\ss{}imte.

On January 1, 1837, no less a person than Mendelssohn wrote to a certain 'Musiklehrer Helwig'\footnote{The letter is in B.M. Add. MS. 33965, f.255. It does not bear Mendelssohn's address and seems to have been sent by hand. 'Helwig' may be K.F.L. Hellwig (1773\EnDash{}1838) who had been cathedral organist in Berlin since 1813 and teacher of music at the Joachimsthal Gymnasium. cf. H. Mendel, \Title{Musikalisches Conversations-Lexikon} (Berlin, 1880), Vol. 5, p. 190}, asking him to make available an armonica in his possession for us in an orchestral charity concert, for which the instrument was indispensable. Mendelssohn does not, unfortunately, specify what was the composition to be played.
