> I Will Instruct You

>> I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you."

Occasion: Seeking God before decisions
Lord, I have a decision to make
and every choice starts talking at once ---
what will work fastest,
what will look best,
what will be the least trouble.
I do not always know which voice is wisdom
and which is fear dressed as caution.
I want the uncertainty to end,
and sometimes that desire alone
is enough to make me hurry.
Quiet the fearful voices
so I can hear what You want.
Quiet my need to have an answer right away,
and my fear that I will choose poorly.
If I act too soon,
I may mistake haste for clarity,
and live with what I chose in the dark.
You know how easily I can decide first
and then ask You to bless my decision after.
Keep me from calling my preference ``Your leading.''
Let me inquire before I act.
Bring me into Your presence
before I step onto the next path.
I do not need to see the whole way.
Give me enough light for the step before me,
and enough patience not to force what is still unclear.
Not the flashy road.
Not the popular road.
Not the easy road.
The road taken after I have been with You.
Before I choose anything else,
I choose You.
Amen.
