> The Heavens Declare His Glory
>> The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork.
Occasion: Thanking God for creation
Lord, thank You for all You have made ---
for the morning light that dances,
for clouds that float without my help,
for the night sky that keeps its eternal watch.
Receive my thanks for things I did not build
and could not keep alive for one split-second on my own.
I live among gifts
and call them ordinary.
I use them up with hardly a thought.
I move through this world distracted,
seeing without wonder,
receiving without stopping to give thanks.
Forgive me for how quickly I begin to think
that all of this belongs to me,
or exists only for my benefit.
The world was already full of Your glory
before I had eyes to see it.
Make me a grateful creature in Your world.
Slow me down enough to notice.
Teach me to answer beauty with thanks,
not ownership,
not hurry.
And when I cannot find grand words,
let simple gratitude be enough.
For the morning light that dances,
thank You.
For the clouds floating overhead,
thank You.
For the night sky that keeps its eternal watch,
thank You.
Amen.
