To be sure, both formulations of glass, and techniques for working it continued to be developed at a ever increasing rate. It doesn't appear to have occurred to any of these men\EmDash{}Bacon, Galileo, or Kircher\EmDash{}to have a set of glasses tuned with water in order to play melodies. Why not? These were extremely bright men! Yet this is an idea that seems to spontaneously occur to little children at the Christmas Dinner table! Perhaps the answer is simply that, as we have seen, wineglasses of this period were extraordinarily expensive; a set of a couple dozen glasses on which to play music would have cost a king's ransom, and was thus beyond imagining.
