Occasion: A church split healing
Lord, we still remember the Sundays after the break ---
empty rows,
voices missing from the hymns,
one parking lot becoming half,
old friends treating each other as unwelcome.
We do not all remember it the same way.
Some of us carry anger, some shame,
and some are still waiting
for someone to say plainly what happened.
We are tired of choosing between silence and another confrontation.
Show us what repentance requires.
Not a quick story about moving on,
but truth told cleanly
about pride,
control,
and the harm done in Your name.
It is easier to build separate peace
than to face the loss of what was severed.
Living apart can masquerade as healing,
and sometimes that's exactly why we prefer it.
Bring shepherds among us who love welcome more than victory,
and people who can mourn together
before they try to stand together.
Give us patience for the slow work of repair,
and courage to listen without bracing ourselves first.
What split in two, Lord,
do not leave in two.
Amen.
