%% 4

> My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD
>> My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
Occasion: Restless after getting what you wanted
Lord, I got the thing I asked for,
and nothing changed.
The cup is in my hand,
and I am still looking past it.
I do not want to be ungrateful.
I am glad for what has come.
But I thought the wanting would end here,
and it has only changed its name.
Show me why my heart keeps yearning
after the gift was given.
I thought this would settle me.
Instead I keep checking,
keep measuring,
keep asking what comes next.
I compare this joy to the joy I imagined,
and wonder why it does not feel like enough.
Even good gifts turn thin
when I ask them to be You.
Turn me from the gift to the Giver.
Teach me to receive with open hands,
without grasping for something more.
Let me be grateful without pretending
a gift can quiet every hunger.
Teach me to be content in Your presence.
I keep asking what comes next.
What comes next is always ---
You.
Amen.
