> Your Comforts Delight My Soul
>> In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul.
Occasion: Inner turmoil
There is a storm in my heart, Lord.
I am calm on the outside,
but not inside.
Old hurt,
new anger,
shame,
want,
all of it jostling against each other.
I do not know which feeling to trust.
I cannot tell what needs my attention
and what will pass if I wait.
Even when I try to be still,
the argument inside me keeps raging.
Sort what I cannot sort.
Name what is true in me,
and what is only noise.
Help me face what is mine to face
without letting every thought take hold of me.
If I act out this churn,
I will wound with my mouth,
or go cold,
or hide.
Pain so readily looks for someone else to wound.
Still me while I am restless.
Give me a quiet center in Your care.
Not a hard shell.
Not numbness.
Not the pretense that none of this matters.
A place where I can stand and not be swept away,
where I can breathe before I speak
and wait before I turn.
In my chest,
be my peace.
Beyond the noise,
be my peace.
Over everything,
be my peace.
Amen.
