> To Children's Children
>> But the lovingkindness of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, his righteousness to children's children.
Occasion: The arrival of a new grandchild
Lord, I held my own child like this,
once upon a time.
Now I am holding my child's child,
and something in the room feels like it has come full circle.
I see an old face in a new one ---
a nose,
a stubborn chin,
a way of frowning before the first cry.
Your kindness did not stop with me.
It reached past me to my child,
and now it reaches past my child to this one.
I will likely not see all of this little life.
I may not see half of it.
But I have already seen enough to entrust them to You.
Let me be the kind of grandparent who tells the truth about grace,
who has lived long enough to have living proof of it,
and is never too tired to share it.
To children's children, Lord.
Keep Your kindness flowing from generation to generation
long after I am only a beloved memory.
Amen.
