||
>> Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him. Don’t fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.

||
|
||
Occasion: Envy over someone else's success
|
||
|
||
That name comes up again, Lord.
|
||
More praise.
|
||
More doors opening.
|
||
More signs that life is moving for them
|
||
when it isn't for me.
|
||
|
||
I do not like what arises in me.
|
||
Their success begins to feel like evidence
|
||
that I have been overlooked.
|
||
I compare what can be seen of their life
|
||
with all the waiting and uncertainty in mine,
|
||
and I come away smaller, jealous, ashamed.
|
||
|
||
Cut envy off before it settles in the chest.
|
||
Teach me how to bless what is good,
|
||
whoever is being blessed,
|
||
without shrinking into myself.
|
||
And when I cannot yet bless gladly,
|
||
help me at least to be honest with You
|
||
and quiet enough not to turn envy into contempt.
|
||
|
||
If I keep staring at their harvest,
|
||
I will despise my own field.
|
||
I will miss the work You have set in front of me.
|
||
|
||
Turn my face back to the ground under my feet.
|
||
Give me gladness for today's bread,
|
||
for today’s task,
|
||
for one honest step.
|
||
Teach me to wait without treating waiting
|
||
as proof that You have forgotten me.
|
||
|
||
Their field is theirs.
|
||
Keep me faithful to mine.
|
||
|
||
