> To Dwell in the Lord's House
>> One thing I have asked of the LORD, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, to see the LORD’s beauty, and to enquire in his temple.
Occasion: A distracted heart
This room is quiet, Lord,
and still my mind keeps turning ---
to the message I forgot,
to the noise down the hall,
to the idle thoughts that crowd out everything worthy.
I want to be present,
but even that desire becomes another thing
I cannot seem to hold on to.
Gather me here.
Help me stay in one place before You.
I do not need to chew on every worry
or settle every unfinished thing
before I can pray.
If I keep scattering,
I will give You only scraps of me ---
a chair, a breath, Your name,
and little else held together.
Receive them anyway,
and patiently gather me again.
Bring my thoughts back when they scatter.
Bring my eyes back when they wander.
Bring my heart back to this room.
And when I drift again,
as I surely will,
teach me to return without shame
to You.
Amen. |
