\subsection{Acts 2}
\VS{1} And when the day of Pentecost was come they were all together.
\VS{2} And
suddenly [a] noise came to pass like when [a] wind carries violently, and it
filled the whole house where they were sitting,
\VS{3} and there appeared to
them divided tongues like fire, and one sat upon each of them,
\VS{4} and
they were all filled with [the] Holy Spirit, and they began to be speaking in
other tongues just as the spirit was giving them to speak out\footnote{or
``declare boldly''}.
\VS{5} Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews,
devout men from every nation under heaven.
\VS{6} Now when this sound came
to pass the multitude was gathered and was amazed, because they were each
one hearing them speaking in their own language.
\VS{7} And they were
astounded and were amazed saying: Behold are not all these speaking
Galileans?
\VS{8} And how are we each hearing [them] in our own language in which
we were born,
\VS{9} Parthenians and Medes and Helamites and those dwelling
in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Portos and Asia,
\VS{10} Phrygia and
Pamphulis, Egypt and the regions of Lybia and Eurene, and visiting Romans,
\VS{11} Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabs, we hear them speaking in
their tongues the greatness of God?
\VS{12} And they were all astounded and
perplexed, some saying to others: What do you suppose this to be?
\VS{13} But others mocking [them] were saying that: They are filled with new wine.
\VS{14} But Peter therefore standing with the eleven, he lifted up his voice and
addressed\footnote{''declared boldly''} them: Judean men and all those dwelling
[in] Jerusalem, let\fnImperative{} this be known to you and attend to my
words.
\VS{15} For these are not drunk as you suppose, for it is the third
hour of the day,
\VS{16} but this is the [thing] spoken through the prophet Joel\footnote{Joel 2:28-31}:
\begin{verse}
\VS{17} And it will be in the last days, says God, \\
I will pour out from my spirit upon all flesh, \\
And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, \\
And your young men will see visions, \\
And your elders will dream dreams \\
\VS{18} And upon my [men]-slaves and upon my [women]-slaves \\
In those days will I pour out from my spirit \\
And they will prophesy. \\
\VS{19} And I will give wonders in heaven above \\
And signs upon the earth below \\
Blood and fire and mist of smoke \\
\VS{20} The sun will be altered to darkness \\
And the moon into blood \\
Before the coming of the great and glorious \\
day of the Lord \\
\VS{21} And it will be [that] everyone who will call upon \\
the name of the Lord will be saved.
\end{verse}
\VS{22} Israelite men, hear these words: Jesus the Nazarene, [a] man attested
from God to you by powers and wonders and signs, which God did through him
in your midst, just as you yourselves know,
\VS{23} This [one] by the fixed
intention and foreknowledge of God delivered through the hand of lawless
[ones] having been nailed [to the cross] he was taken up,
\VS{24} which God raised having loosed
the birth-pains of death, because it was not able to hold him under it.
\VS{25} For David says to him\footnote{Ps.16:8}:
\begin{verse}
I foresaw the Lord before me through everything \\
Because he is from my right [hand], \\
In order that I now be shaken \\
\VS{26} Because of this my heart was gladdened \\
and my tongue rejoiced \\
For yet also will my flesh rejoice upon hope, \\
\VS{27} Because I will not forsake my psyche-life\fnPsyche{} to Hades\fnHades{} \\
Nor will I give my approved [one] to see corruption. \\
\VS{28} You made known to me [the] ways of zoe-life\fnZoe{} \\
You will fill me with gladness with your face.
\end{verse}
\VS{29} Men brothers, being permitted to speak with openness\footnote{or
``boldness''} to you concerning the patriarch David, because he also came to
[his] end and was buried, and his grave is among you until this day,
\VS{30} he
being [a] prophet and knowing that God oathed to him an oath [that] from the fruit of
his loins [will one] sit upon his throne,
\VS{31} having foreknown, he spoke concerning the resurrection of Christ, that:
\begin{verse}
Neither was he forsaken to Hades\fnHades{}
nor did his flesh see corruption.
\end{verse}
\VS{32} God resurrected this Jesus, of
which we are all witnesses,
\VS{33} having been exalted therefore to the
right [hand] of God, having received the promise of the Holy Spirit beside the
father this [one] poured out what you also see and hear.
\VS{34} For David did
not go up into the heavens, but he himself says:
\begin{verse}
The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right \ADD{hand \\
}
\VS{35} Until I place your enemies
as [a] footstool for your feet.
\end{verse}
\VS{36} Assuredly therefore let\fnImperative{} all [the] house of Israel be
knowing that God made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you
crucified.
\VS{37} Now having heard [this] they were pierced [to] the heart, and said to Peter
and the rest of the apostles: What should we do, men brothers?
\VS{38} So
Peter [said] to them, Repent and be baptized each [of you] upon the name of Jesus Christ
to the forgiveness [of your] sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
\VS{39} For the promise is to you and to your children and to all [those] to afar,
as many as will call upon [the] Lord our God.
\VS{40} And with other more words
he was witnessing and calling upon them saying: Be saved from this
unscrupulous generation.
\VS{41} On the one hand therefore having received
his word, they were baptized, and added in that day [about] three thousand psyche-lives\fnPsyche{}.
\VS{42} But on the other hand they were adhering to the teaching of the
apostles and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayers.
\VS{43} Now fear came to pass to every psyche-life\fnPsyche{}, for many wonders and signs came
to pass through the disciples.
\VS{44} Now all those having believed were
together, having everything in common.
\VS{45} And [their] possessions and property
they were selling and were distributing to all, according as anyone was
having need.
\VS{46} [day] by day persisting with one mind in the temple,
breaking bread [house] by house, they were sharing nourishment in exultation and
simplicity of heart,
\VS{47} praising God and having joy towards all the
people. And the Lord added [day] by day [to] all those being saved.
