\subsubsection{The Destruction of the Temple}
|
|
\VS{1} And when he went out of the temple one of his disciples says to him: Behold
|
|
how great [are] the stones and how great [are] the buildings.
|
|
\VS{2} And Jesus said to
|
|
him: Do you see these great buildings? There will \negd{not} be left
|
|
stone upon stone that will \negd{not} be thrown down.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Signs of the End of the Age}
|
|
\VS{3} And when
|
|
he sat on the mount of olives opposite the temple Peter and James and John
|
|
asked him privately:
|
|
\VS{4} Tell us, when will these [things] be, and what [is] the sign
|
|
when these [things] are [about] to complete everything?
|
|
\VS{5} So Jesus began to be saying
|
|
to them: Be seeing that no one deceive you.
|
|
\VS{6} Many will come on my name
|
|
saying that: It is I, and will deceive many.
|
|
\VS{7} But whenever you hear
|
|
wars and rumors of wars, Do not be being frightened; it must come to pass,
|
|
but the end is not yet.
|
|
\VS{8} For nation will rise against nation and
|
|
kingdom against kingdom, there will be earthquakes in diverse places, there
|
|
will be famines and
|
|
disorders\footnote{or ``commotions,'' ``tumults,''
|
|
``troubles'' }\ \footnote{``and disorders'' \koine{}W \vulgate{}; omit: B}. These are the beginning of birth-pains.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Persecution of Disciples}
|
|
\VS{9} But you be looking to yourselves. For they
|
|
will deliver you up to the council and you will be beaten in the synagogues
|
|
and be stood before governors and kings because of me as [a] witness to them.
|
|
\VS{10} And to all the nations is it first necessary [that] the gospel be
|
|
preached.
|
|
\VS{11} And whenever they may bring you being delivered up, do not
|
|
concern yourself beforehand what you will say, but whatever be given to you
|
|
in that hour, this be speaking; for the [one] speaking is not you but the Holy
|
|
Spirit.
|
|
\VS{12} And brother will deliver up brother to death and father
|
|
child, and children will rise up against parents and will kill them.
|
|
\VS{13}
|
|
And you will be hated by all because of my name; but the [one] having endured to
|
|
the end, this [one] will be saved.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Abomination of Desolation}
|
|
\VS{14} But when you see the abomination of
|
|
desecration\footnote{or ``desolation''} having stood where it must not, the
|
|
[one] reading, let him understand\fnImperative{}, then let those in Judea
|
|
be fleeing\fnImperative{} into the mountains.
|
|
\VS{15} Let him on the
|
|
roof not come down\fnImperative{} nor enter in to take anything from
|
|
his house.
|
|
\VS{16} And let the [one] in the field not turn
|
|
back\fnImperative{} to take his garments.
|
|
\VS{17} But woe to the
|
|
pregnant and those giving suck in those days.
|
|
\VS{18} But be praying in
|
|
order that it not come to pass in winter,
|
|
\VS{19} for those days will be [a]
|
|
tribulation such as has not come to pass from the beginning of creation
|
|
that God created until now and will \negd{not} [again] come to pass.
|
|
\VS{20} And except [the] Lord shorten\footnote{or ``curtail''} the days, all flesh would
|
|
not be saved. But because of the chosen whom he chose he
|
|
shortened\footnote{or ``curtailed''} the days.
|
|
\VS{21} And then if any say
|
|
to you: Behold there is the Anointed\fnChristos{} [One], or: Behold here, be not believing.
|
|
\VS{22} But false Anointed\fnChristos{} [Ones] and false prophets will arise and will make signs
|
|
and wonders in order to be deceiving if possible, the chosen.
|
|
\VS{23} But you be looking; I have foretold you everything.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Arrival of the Son of Man}
|
|
\VS{24} But in those days
|
|
after that tribulation
|
|
\begin{verse}
|
|
the sun will be darkened, \\
|
|
and the moon will not give its radiance, \\
|
|
\VS{25} And the stars will be falling out of heaven \\
|
|
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
|
|

|
\VS{26} And they will see the son of
|
|
man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
|
|
\VS{27} And then he
|
|
will send the angels and they will gather his chosen out of the four winds
|
|
from the edge of [the] earth to the edge of heaven.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{The Parable of the Fig Tree}
|
|
\VS{28} But from the fig tree
|
|
learn the parable, When its branches have already become tender and have put
|
|
forth its leaves, you know that summer is at hand.
|
|
\VS{29} Thus you also,
|
|
when you see these [things] come to pass, know that it is at hand upon the doors.
|
|
\VS{30} Truly I say to you that this\footnote{can mean ``the
|
|
aforementioned''} generation does \negd{not} pass away until all these
|
|
[things] come to pass.
|
|
\VS{31} Heaven and [the] earth will pass away, but my words will
|
|
not pass away.
|
|
|
|
\subsubsection{Be Ready!}
|
|
\VS{32} Concerning that day or that hour no one knows,
|
|
neither the angels in heaven nor the son, except the father.
|
|
\VS{33} Be looking, be being alert and be praying,
|
|

|
for you know not when is the time\fnKairos{}.
|
|
\VS{34} As [a] man away on [a]
|
|
journey having left his house and having given to his slaves the authority,
|
|
[and] to each his work, also commanded the doorkeeper that he should be being
|
|
watchful.
|
|
\VS{35} Be being watchful therefore, for you know not when the
|
|
lord of the house comes, either late or [at] midnight or [at] the crowing of the
|
|
cock or early,
|
|
\VS{36} lest having come suddenly he find you sleeping.
|
|
\VS{37} But what I say to you, I say to all: Be being watchful.
